The MegaCity chorus is an all male vocal group based in Toronto that is dedicated to singing quality four-part a cappella harmony.

Formed in 1997, the MegaCity Chorus won the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Ontario District Championship in 1999 and 2005. They have represented the Ontario District at International Competitions held in both Canada and the United States.

In addition to competing they love to entertain and have performed at various venues throughout southern Ontario including: Hamilton Place, North York Centre for the Performing Arts, the Mississauga Living Arts Centre, Casa Loma, the Imperial Room at the Royal York, Casino Rama, Huntsville, Kingston and Owen Sound.

Their repertoire has something for everyone, including contemporary pop, modern jazz, inspirational hymns and show tunes, as well as traditional barbershop favourites.

The atmosphere of their gatherings is first and foremost FUN! They took up this hobby because they love to sing, perform and they enjoy the camaraderie. Rehearsals typically include vocal warm-up exercises, learning new songs and polishing existing repertoire. In addition they receive top-notch musical, vocal and performance training from Director Dan Rutzen. As part of the chorus’ continuous improvement process they also receive coaching from some of the world’s best Vocal and Presentation coaches.

While they are amateur singers they do maintain a high standard of musical excellence. The objective is to learn music quickly and accurately so that they can concentrate on mastering the artistry of performance.

Though many members do read music it is not required to join the chapter. Learning tracks are available and many members use hand held recorders to speed up the learning process.
